De Duurzame Stad 2040

In order to investigate the future of our constantly expanding cities the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency asked, together with the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment and the Government Buildings Agency asked five design offices to come up with plans for a sustainable city. Each office was assigned a different neighbourhood in a different Dutch city which was to be adapted for sustainable use in 2040.
ZUS made a design for a villa neighbourhood in Apeldoorn. The other offices were: VHP Architecten, Doepel Strijkers Architects, 2012 Architecten and Julien de Smedt Architects.
The results were published in the book De Duurzame Stad 2040 together with various essays and transcriptions of discussion. The full presentation panels are included in the book as separate centerfolds.
