A new vocabulary

To cope with the rising water levels the Afsluitdijk has to be raised at least three meters. This offers ample opportunities to create a more dynamic relationship with the water. By designing to respond to the forces of the waves on either side of the dike, the contrast between the Waddenzee on the one side and the IJsselmeer on the other is emphasized. On both ends of the dike an ecological connection will be made by means of a ‘bridge for fish’.
