In this new official residence for the mayor of Rotterdam there is a constant tension between the public and the private. The public aspect is expressed by the transparent glass fa├žade surrounding the villa. Between the skin and the actual house a winter garden is situated which serves as a lobby. In the house itself – which is accessible through a underground passage – the most intimate spaces are located. From the centre of the house there is a gradual transition towards more public spaces on the outside.
